FM19 : FIORENTINA (9.0) 26-27

Welcome back, its season nine in to the save and things in Florence are starting to change with Abdou Diakhate on his way to China at the end of August after agreeing a deal early in the summer, it feels like the save is coming to an end with the loss of my trusted warrior on the pitch but maybe that gives someone else the chance to step up and replace the Senegalese midfielder.

It’s been a tough summer in Florence with some hard decisions to be made after our colossal collapse in May at the end of last season. The first and most difficult decision was to let Abdou Diakhate leave the club to play in China, a move that brings in £26m in to the club. The midfielder left at the end of August and went out with a bang scoring twice in a substitute appearance against Sassuolo in a 3-1 win and then netting the winner in his final game for the club in a 2-1 win against Lazio. This made things harder for me but at the end of the day we have to make tough decisions at times and this was one of them.

I also decided to let Rafik Zekhnini leave, he is another player who was fantastic for me but his game time was now limited after 149 league appearances, with Vinicius Junior making the left wing spot his own. The Brazilian winger is now supported by fellow Brazilian winger Ganso who you may remember from a blog post that I did about him.

I also made a big decision in bringing Palermo forward Andrea Pinamonti in to the club to boost our firepower, a decision come the end of the season turned out to be a positive one with him top scoring at the club with 21 goals in all competitions.

One co competition that still eludes me is the Champions League and after navigating our way out of the group stage containing Liverpool, Lyon and FC København we fell in the 1st knockout round to Borussia Dortmund 7-2 on aggregate, most certainly an encounter to forget.

By the halfway point of the season we found ourselves in 4th place with 37 points 7 points behind leaders Internazionale meaning we need a good second half of the season to get near the leaders.

January 2027

Patchy form in January and February made things difficult for us to mount a serious title challenge but we did come good at the back end of the season going undefeated in our last 10 games in Serie A with 9 wins and a draw giving us a second place finish 7 points behindchampions Internazionale.

Andrea Pinamonti top sco/red for us with 21 goals followed by Vinicius Junior on 19 and Patrick Cutrone on 16. Nicolo Barella on 13 and Alessandro Cortinovis with 12 goals provided good back up from midfield after both had a very good season.

We did end the campaign with some silverware winning our second Coppa Italia Final under my tenure by hammering Sampdoria 4-0 in a one sided final that we dominated from the off.

Nine seasons down and maybe just one more season left of the save that will round things off nicely with ten seasons under our belt and giving me a well earned rest from both the game and writing before the release of FM20. I would very much like to end the save with another Serie A title to make it our third of the save and a Champions League trophy would be nice but not likely after several failed attempts with the closest being a Semi Final defeat at the hands of PSG.

I can’t believe we have chalked up nine seasons with the Viola its been a fantastic save for me personally that really got me back on track with the FM in general and I am looking forward to the new release and a save in the lower league’s of Italy.

My next blog update will be my season 10 review which looks like being my last with the Viola and last on FM19 which gives me a nice hiatus from the game before the beta comes out.

Thanks for reading and I hope you are all still enjoying the game so until next time
